Time Of File is a compact timestamp built from a three-digit Julian day and a four-digit time of day. The three digits show the day of the year (001 through 365/366), and the four digits represent the hour and minute in 24-hour format (HHMM). Together they form a seven-digit code that identifies when the file was created within the year, without including a calendar date or an explicit time zone. The other formats don’t match this standard: they either use a longer or differently split field, or imply a calendar date or time zone that TOF does not encode.
